This Memorial Day: Remember, Honor, Resolve

Posterity: you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it.” –John Adams

Remember all who came before you, from Lexington Green and Concord Bridge, through all the many battles fought, to today.

Remember their sacrifice - they gave life and limb, they gave their youth. They bore the scars, the terror, the hardship.

Remember that they were guardians of the Republic. Remember that they swore the same oath you did, and fought out of love of country and out of love of their buddies, and that many gave all in keeping that oath.

Remember that your oath has no expiration date. “Our obligations to our country never cease but with our lives.” –John Adams, letter to Benjamin Rush, April 18, 1808.

And then honor all those who came before by resolving to keep your oath just as faithfully, come what may. How can any of us do less?
